The Overgrown Undertones

History

Brad Pogue and Paul Branton have been playing music together for over forty years.  They belong to the heavy rock band Ignition that has been making music in San Diego County  for a long time.  Originating in the East County of San Diego (Alpine and El Cajon)  the band has made two albums and played numerous shows since it's inception.  Brad ( bass and lead vocals) and Paul ( guitars) decided to try a project that took their music in a different direction.  The result is the Overgrown Undertones and the album, Songs in the Catatonic Scale.

Paul Branton

Paul's influences on guitar range from Michael Schenker to Leo Kotke.  He's a big fan of acoustic guitar, though most of the time you will find him on his PRS adding the wonderful tones, melodies, and fills found on the album.  Paul spends his creative time, when not recording with Brad, at his own home studio called The Habit Hole.  Paul started playing guitar at sixteen.  Soon he and his friends Don Costa and Larry Rushing started the band Ignition.  Though the band broke up for a period of about ten years, it was reincarnated with the additions of  Brad and Alan Bowman.

Brad Pogue

Brad's first instrument has always been voice.  He plays guitar, bass, keys, and drums, but leaves the guitar work with the Overgrown Undertones to Paul.  Brad met Paul when both of them were eighteen.  Paul was playing with Ignition and Brad was playing in a band called Megadon with Alan Bowman.  After Megadon broke up, Brad joined Ignition as the lead singer.  Brad's influences range from pop music to prog rock.  Influenced by singer song writers like Elton John and Billy Joel he enjoys writing songs more than practicing an instrument.  He will tell you that the only reason he plays as many instruments as he does is so he can record the songs that pop into his head.
